Carry On Luggage - Travel Within the Guidelines

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Loretto_Bennett]Loretto Bennett
When my husband and I first started to travel it wasn't all that difficult. We decided on our vacation destination, booked our flight, packed our bags and away we went. No hassles. Now when we fly, we choose our vacation destination, we book our flight and we pack our carry on luggage so that it is not overweight and that we have adhered to airline regulations. We noticed a big change after 9/11. We supported all the changes made as they were totally understandable.
In general, the luggage restrictions are quite similar for all the airlines as they do have to follow the TSA guidelines. The 3-1-1 rule applies to all airlines. The 3 ounce containers of liquid or gel, in 1 quart bags, 1 per traveler. You are able to take personal items in your carry on luggage. For example, nail clippers, blunt scissors, lighters etc. You are not allowed to take any kind of weapon or tool in your carry on.  You must put these items in your checked luggage and wrap them securely so that they are safely transported and not be a danger to airport officials or anyone else. You need to pack light and your carry on cannot be any larger than 45 linear inches. The carry on weight and size would need further research as each airline is different and it depends whether you are traveling abroad or local.
For example, if you are flying American Airlines within the United States you are able to take a carry on and a personal bag such as shoulder tote, purse, or briefcase on the plane. If it is an international flight you are only allowed one carry on.  If you are checking luggage traveling within Canada, the US, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, there is no checked baggage allowance. You have to pay for each checked luggage bag. Their excess and overweight baggage fees are extensive. You can take sporting equipment with you on your flight but each piece of sporting equipment comes with a policy attached. In order to travel American Airlines, it looks expensive and you would have to pay close attention to their regulations and restrictions. (Just my opinion)
You can find information regarding any airline online or phone a travel agent or the TSA. You do not need the aggravation at the airport of repacking your luggage or checking in a bag because it has an item that is not permitted in your carry on while you are just starting out on your vacation or business trip. http://www.luggageparadise.com/
