Thanksgiving Travel and Airport Parking Tips

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=S_Hurley_Hall]S Hurley Hall
Did you know that Thanksgiving is the busiest time of year for air travel? And because it's such a popular travel holiday, that means you can expect long lines and lots of delays going through the security checkpoints. Along with a big dose of patience, it helps to keep these Thanksgiving travel tips in mind before you set off for the airport parking lot.
Timing is Everything
The busier the airport, the more time you need to allow to get to there and make it through the long lines. This means leaving your house earlier than you normally would; after all, thousands of others just like you are making their way to the airport, too, so traffic is bound to be congested. It's ideal to arrive at the airport with at least two hours to spare before your flight departs.
Don't rely on the airport parking lots to have a convenient space open. Particularly over periods of heavy air travel, it's wise to use offsite airport parking so you can be assured of a spot and timely transportation to the terminal without any hassles or delays.
Check-In
After you park at the airport and approach the check-in counter, expect a long line. If you've never printed your boarding pass and checked in to your flight online before, now might be the ideal time to give it a go because it will save you lots of time and aggravation.
If you can, travel light and don't check any luggage. Just be sure your carry-on fits the airline's specifications as far as dimensions and weight and that your liquids are compliant with TSA guidelines.
If you simply can't travel without checking baggage, as long as you check in online the day before your flight, you'll still save a great deal of time by being able to head straight for the luggage drop-off area. And depending on which airport you are flying from, you may be able to check your bags curbside, avoiding the crowds indoors.
Security
Then there's the dreaded security line... The best piece of advice is to anticipate the screening process and be prepared. That means wearing shoes that are easy to slip off, not taking anything through the security line that could warrant a closer inspection (jewelry, scissors, pocketknife, computerized devices, etc.), and ensuring that liquids in your carry-on baggage are small and appropriately packaged (this applies to beverages, too). Have your boarding pass and ID ready; you may want to purchase lanyards for all members of your family so these documents are always handy yet out of the way.
Thanksgiving is all about the food for most families, but if you want to fly with a jar of your homemade cranberry sauce or spiced apple cider in tow, forget it. Restrictions apply to these foods since they are categorized as liquids and gels; it's just more hassle than it's worth to try to bring your homemade holiday goodies on the plane - although you could put them in checked baggage if you're adamant about bringing them.
If you are one of the millions of people expected to fly over the Thanksgiving holiday, use these air travel tips to make your experience more pleasant and less time-consuming. And do remember to be patient; everyone else at the airport wants to enjoy their holiday, too.

Eight Smart Travel Tips to Save Money and Fly Safer

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lynda_Silvestro]Lynda Silvestro and Santo S. Silvestro
Whether you're a frequent flyer or sometimes traveler, these useful travel tips will help you save money on flights, hotels and rental cars and travel more safely on the road or in the air.
Booking hotels for the weekend is all business. Hotels that cater to vacationers generally raise rates on weekends, while hotels designed for business travelers tend to lower their weekend rates. By booking where business travelers stay, you may be able to save a good chunk of change, especially in the larger cities.
Sign up for flight status notifications. To know if your flight is delayed or on time before you get to the airport, go to FlightStats.com or TripIt.com and sign up to receive email and/or text notices.
Know the skinny on your seat. Seatguru.com is a site that provides information and ratings on various airlines' in-flight amenities and seating, such as legroom, so you can make an informed decision about the seat you choose. Tip: JetBlue earned above average for seat comfort in a Consumer reports survey.
How to cut corners on a rental car. Rental car rates are going up. To save money, look on Autoslash.com for coupons and discounts and rent from an off-airport location. Also, beware of additional offers from the rental car company - you may already have accident insurance through your own car insurance or credit card. And you may want to pass on the prepaid gas offer - you'll likely overpay, especially if you return the car with gas left in the tank.
Know the safety rating of your rental car. Vehicles vary in their head-on collision and side, rear and rollover impact ratings. Find out the safety rating of the car you'll be driving at sites such as safercar.gov or IIHS.org/ratings.
Take advantage of free apps. Go to gateguruapp.com for an app that gives you a heads up about a given airport's food, shopping and service options. The Flysmart and goHow apps give information on airport restaurants, shops, ATMs, restrooms and other amenities inside each airport as well as arrival and departure times.
Get e-mail alerts for sales and specials. Follow your favorite airline on Twitter for special rates and deals and sign up for e-mail alerts at Orbitz.com, SmarterTravel.com and TripAdvisor.com. Also, the best time to book is Tuesday at 3 p.m. EST since most airline sales campaigns start late Monday night.
Other helpful travel sites: Inside-Trip.com rates airline "TripQuality" based on 12 factors, including leg room, aircraft age and on-time performance. Gogobot.com offers trip advice from real people on Facebook and Twitter. Tripit.com turns your hotel, flight and other travel confirmation emails into mobile itineraries for your phone or PDS. Jetsetter.com is a beautiful site that offers its members deep discounts on exotic vacations. Room77.com ranks hotel rooms on various criteria such as price and room view.
Santo and Lynda Silvestro purchased Hoyt Livery in 1987. Throughout the years, they have created the Hoyt Experience... first-rate service beyond your expectations... from the moment you make your initial reservation until the time you reach your final destination.

A Guide to Airline Safety Cards

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gina_Michelle_Francis]Gina Michelle Francis
An aircraft safety card is a printed document that instructs passengers during a flight about the procedures for dealing with various emergency conditions that might arise.
While technology continues to play an increasingly significant role in the way airlines communicate with passengers during flights, the importance of printed documents should not be overlooked. Safety cards are a prime example. They put essential instructions for emergency situations into the hands of passengers and provide peace of mind before the flight takes off.

Airlines usually provide safety cards on all commercial flights and place them in the back pocket of the seat in front of each passenger. Pre-flight safety demonstrations, either conducted by cabin crew or through a video presentation, instruct passengers to familiarise themselves with the safety card prior to take-off
Content
The cards are often laminated or made of plastic to ensure they are robust enough to be handled regularly by different passengers. The instructions need to be specific to the model of the airplane they are found in. The contents are usually in the form of pictures, graphically illustrating such procedures as buckling the seat belts, bracing for impact in an airplane crash, dealing with depressurisation, opening the emergency exit door or inflating life rafts in the event of a water landing.
The graphic representation allows safety cards to be understood by those speaking a different language than the flight attendants, as well as children and illiterate passengers. Some airlines provide braille versions of their safety cards for the visually impaired.
Supplier
When looking to produce a new aircraft safety card or update an existing one, it's important to use a trusted and experienced inflight entertainment content service provider (CSP). One that understands airplane safety procedures, differing aircraft models and has the design skills to produce a high quality, effective safety card. A good CSP will also be able to take care of all your other IFE requirements such movie, TV and audio licensing as well as safety films, promotional videos and GUI design.
Because brand consistency is obviously very important, it is also beneficial for airlines to choose a supplier that has experience in producing in-flight entertainment guides, duty free magazines, brochures, flyers and adverts for airlines.
The next step for the airline, once it has the right printed documents in place, is to consider how digital platforms, such as in-flight video and audio, can be used to support key safety messages and help passengers to enjoy a relaxed and care-free flying experience.
Does your airline require a supplier to produce its [http://www.ifeservices.com/services/production/printwork/]safety cards? A Guide to Duty Free Magazines

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gina_Michelle_Francis]Gina Michelle Francis
Airlines can benefit considerably financially from onboard duty free sales. While embedded in-flight entertainment systems are commonly used to inform passengers of what's available to purchase, there still remains an important role for the printed duty free magazine.
Even with great in-flight entertainment available onboard such as movies, TV shows and music, there will inevitably be moments during a flight when passengers have time on their hands to read printed publications including the inflight duty free magazine.
For passengers, duty free magazines provide a valuable resource for describing what products can be purchased and what great savings can be made. A high quality, well designed printed magazine provides a great opportunity to promote your full range of available products - from jewellery, watches and perfumes to spirits, cigarettes and gifts such as wallets, belts and designer sunglasses.
Airlines need to make sure their duty free magazine is appealing to read. For that, they need a professional and experienced team that can handle the design, production and printing of the magazine. Images of the products should be attractive and the sales copy must be well written and clear. Consideration should also be given to passenger demographics - products of interest to the average business traveller may vary considerably to those wanted by holidaymakers.
Design consistency across all printed communications is essential, so the airline's brand guidelines should be closely adhered to. The right imagery, tone and content will play an important role in encouraging passengers to consider making purchases of products of interest to them. Other considerations include the inclusion of other languages and currencies.
Once the duty free magazine is in place, airlines can increase their chances of making sales with additional sales communications via screen and audio on their in-flight entertain, is to employ an IFE services team that is experienced at delivering cost-effective in-flight entertainment solutions to airlines.
As well as duty free magazines, a good and experienced in-flight entertainment provider can also take care of all your other IFE requirements for overhead, personal TV and seat-back AVOD systems to guarantee a first-class experience for your passengers.
From the best movies and TV shows to great audio channels and fun games, their programming and purchasing experts will create a bespoke entertainment package to suit your requirements and budget. The modern passenger expects a first rate in-flight experience and this can be achieved cost-effectively with the help of a good IFE content service provider.
Does your airline require a supplier to produce its [http://www.ifeservices.com/services/production/printwork/]duty free magazines? Traveling in LLASA Tibet - A Terrible Day Become Beautiful Again

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sue_Gibbins]Sue Gibbins
The start day started off very badly. I hadn't slept all night because I couldn't catch my breath due to the high altitude. It was horrible.
I had booked a trip to go to some far off lake leaving at 7.30am; I wobbled outside to go to the pick-up point and promptly got lost. 7:30 came and went and I went back to the hotel. Stuff the $25 I had lost.
Breakfast cheered me up a bit, so at 8:30, I thought I would go to the Potala Palace-the summer residence of the Dalai Lama and seat of Government- when they are allowed, that is. Silly me, I hadn't reckoned on half of the world being there, but I persevered, even walking miles to the next entrance to buy a "foreigners" ticket. Well, the "foreigners" line-up snaked into the distance, and to top it all off the ticket would be for tomorrow and cost 2 nights in a reasonable hotel. My decision to forgo the visit was easy.
Across the street amongst the religious hawkers, was a Tibetan Handicraft Shop - half an hour later, I was the proud owner of a beautiful Tibetan Yaks Wool carpet. Just needing to carry the 9 kilos onto India now! I did feel better though, a little retail therapy goes a long way.
Back at the hotel I was flagging again but I thought I would fly to Kathmandu, damn the expense. I went to the travel agent, bad mistake; I went to the China Airlines Office, bad mistake. The next available flight was 8 days away! I was a prisoner in Lhasa.
The hotel reception rang to say they had a cheaper room available, would I like to view it? View it I did, decline I also did. Then they dropped the bomb-shell that my room was booked from tomorrow onwards, I would have to move. Terrific. But I could stay for another night at their exorbitant rates. Thanks a lot. So I packed and trudged around the streets until I found a reasonably priced hotel.
After lunch, I thought I really must do some "culture", booking offices were becoming too much a part of my trip. I decided to go to a monastery a little out of Lhasa and my guide book assured me that Bus no 303 would drop me there. Bus 303?, still haven't seen a Bus 303.Three taxis later, I eventually settled on a reasonable amount and off we went. The Chinese driver was out to impress the foreigner. I suppose his driving skills were OK, it's just that he drove like a maniac. Half-way the CD played Chinese love songs, oh god, not this crap again. I stared out the window and pretended he didn't exist. Amazingly, I arrived at the monastery.
Somehow my day was transformed as soon as I stepped inside this fantastic, wonderful place. I wandered around until I met up with a monk from Sera Monastery- a scholar- who spoke English. Yippee.
I was taken on a guided tour, watched the monks debating in the courtyard, had the escort of the head honcho, asked endless questions, got intelligent answers. Then I was taken to a smaller monastery down the hill, this one is to protect the Dalai Lama. After two hours of fantastic company I was dropped back in town.
If only this monk and his brother knew how much I appreciated their attention and how they made a terrible day beautiful again. They thanked me!
Back at the hotel, I got the good news of being able to team up with 4 other blokes for the trip to Nepal. In just 2 days time I would be leaving Lhasa and all the frustrations of trying to do business in a country where suspicion and shear awkwardness reign.

Flying With Style: Personal Plane or 1st Class?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Randa_Gomm]Randa Gomm
Whether you would like to fly a personal plane or 1st class is based completely on where you are venturing and how much cash you want to commit. Both a personal airplane and first class have their advantages and disadvantages. From sharing an area with others, to below first class, all depends as to what you desire.
First Class Pluses
In 1st class you basically don't have anything to concern yourself. Basically hop on the aircraft and go. This is particularly advantageous for anyone who is on a aircraft traveling around the globe. Often these journeys are quite lengthy and 1st class travel segments provide you pretty much your own bed and own space during the flight journey. You can find all of the food and drink you could need and you will probably not have to lift a finger. You are first on the airplane, first off, additionally you may have a lot of privacy. Moreover, for this kind of travel the purchase price can be more practical as opposed to the cost of a private plane. If you ever booked a personal airplane you would have to rent one not too small to get across the ocean, so it will probably be a pretty decent size, and in that case you are renting the complete plane not simply a seat. You could select to make use of a stewardess on the plane but that is an additional staff member and other expenses. The alternative may be to have dinner catered to the airplane and so you get to serve yourself.
Private Aircraft Advantages
If you have several pals who would like to book an exclusive plane, then a personal jet may be the way to go. You would need to have quite a number of friends fully committed and happy to book a total aircraft. There are lots of sorts of jets. A number of these airplanes are so tiny that you're not going to have more extravagance than you would in discount class, yet at two times the cost. Unless you are really wealthy or have a huge band of relatively wealthy friends you might like to select the 1st class track for simple convenience and ease. Also in first class you will not be in charge of the permits together with other licenses that will be important to land in other states and locations. Within a private aircraft you could feel wealthy, although the complete cost may leave you poorer than you imagined. Fly first class and leave the effort for someone else.
Other Considerations
If you value things clean and orderly and you simply want everything within reach of your fingertips, an exclusive aircraft could be your answer. You'll be able to control the climate, the foodstuff along with the company that you're with. If you don't care about those things and just demand a relaxing flight then first class might be the best route. However, there's also those planes where first class is just a few seats in the front of the aircraft, or 1st class isn't actually attainable at all. In such cases you'll probably not be happy in first class and ought to surely opt to rent an exclusive airplane.

Air Travel Made Easy and Painless

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Elvie_Look]Elvie Look
With the crunch on airlines, traveling is not as much the pleasure it once was. For some it can cause their aortic blood vessel to pop. Now, I am not a world traveler... well, maybe I am. I have traveled to about 20 countries in my life time, and I have gone from hitch hiking with a back pack and staying in youth hostels to going First Class and staying in Blue Ribbon Resorts (higher than 5-Star). I have traveled with 2 outfits to last me 4 months to 3 full suitcases carrying 2 outfits per day. So, as we got ready to take this 3 week trip to Arizona and Mexico, I was faced with the dilemma of packing again.
The last vacation we took, I definitely over packed. I don't regret it, that was the nature of the trip. We were celebrating our 25th Anniversary and decided to go full tilt. But I decided as we were rolling our train of luggage around the airport that I was not going to over pack anymore. I nailed it this time! I did not over pack, and I did not forget anything.
1. Pack Light and Pack Versatile
We live in a cold climate, and will be returning to snow. So I had to have closed shoes and a jacket for the travel day. With that exception, everything else is very versatile and can be worn with anything. My favorite piece that I would not do without is my Pashmina scarf. It acted as a pillow on the plane, as a blanket when I was cool, or as a shawl when we went out in the evening. It is small and rolls up taking hardly any space in my purse. It can be sweltering hot out, but walk into an air-conditioned restaurant and you will soon be shivering. Not anymore with a pashmina!
2. Pre-Travel Preparation
With Google at your fingertips, there is no reason not to be prepared for travel. I Googled and printed off a map to the hotel, map of the area, directions of places were wanted to travel to, addresses and phone numbers. This was so helpful because we landed late at night when it was pitch black. I already had a good idea of where we were staying and had no trouble finding my way.
Call your hotel or check online to find out what amenities they supply. Many provide shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and a blow dryer. That way you do not have to bring things unnecessarily. Also, purchase travel sized containers to reduce the weight and space.
3. Pack A Spare Suitcase
This tip falls under "better safe than sorry," for 2 reasons. Even when you don't plan on shopping, we have always ended up with bulging suitcases on the trip home and then are trying to purchase an extra suitcase at the last minute. Bring one and you will have it if you need it.
The other reason, is simply because it is a money-saving tactic. If you are over weight, the fine is usually astronomical! Better to pay for an extra piece of luggage which is about $25 or $35, much cheaper! The one you bring doesn't have to be large, it could be a soft-sided duffel bag you lay in the bottom of your suitcase, or pack a suitcase within a suitcase.
4. Organize Your Bags With Baggies
Pick up some small craft baggies. I just love these babies. I used them to pack my daily vitamins which took up less space than the bottles. They are convenient too as you can throw one into your purse or pocket each day.
I also used these bags to organize my electronic cords for my iPod, Camera, iPhone, laptop, etc. Then I put all those items into a zippered pouch. It was wonderful having everything organized and easy to grab whatever I needed for the day.
5. Have a Notebook
No matter how digital you are, keep a notebook and pen handy. Sometimes your organizer may die or you don't have batteries, but you will always have what you need with your notebook & pen. I used this to keep track of so many things and my To-Do lists that I could write a book on it. A "must" for traveling.
6. Some Packing Essentials

Back Pack - ours has a smaller pouch that can be used as well, so it is a 2-in-1 Pack
Small Umbrella - for rain or sun
Small Sewing Kit - with safety pins, which I was so grateful when a strap broke
Nail Kit -
First Aid Kit
Multi-Tool - such as a Swiss Army Knife and a Multi-Plier

Just remember to pack these in your luggage and not your carry on.
7. Wonder File
One of the frustrations when you travel is knowing where to keep things, and then when you want them, you can't remember where they are? This is my new Favorite Thing! I "wonder" how I got along without it! It folds up small like a laptop case. You unfold it and it becomes your office. I can work on the hotel bed, and it has pockets and tucks for everything. All my papers and receipts have a home and all in one place. When you are done recording your receipts, planning your lists or excursions, just close it up. It holds a small laptop, calculator, pens, everything you need. You can take it with you anywhere. Also, by keeping track of your expenditures as you go is one thing that reduces post-travel stress.
8. 3-In-1 Laundry Sheets
If you are packing light and need to do laundry along the way, this is another favorite thing I discovered, 3-in-1 Laundry Sheets. They are sheets the size of a dryer sheet, but they are the detergent, fabric softener and anti-static all in one. So convenient and handy. But after I did my laundry, I noticed some stains remained.... so I have added one more thing to my list for future trips.... a small pretreatment stain stick.
9. Be Prepared For Medical Emergencies
We have visited so many hospitals on various trips, I have learned to be prepared and carry a list of medical information. I have an article on my website about what you should include in your list.
10. Ask The Locals
We have dined in some wonderful restaurants that are off the beaten track that the locals frequent. I would have walked right by making a judgement by the building, but because it was recommended by the locals, we went in... and we were not disappointed.
11. Negotiate
Since we were staying longer than a week, we inquired if we could get a better rate - and we did! We saved about $300. It never hurts to try to negotiate or inquire for better rates, the worst thing they can say is "No."
12. Money Saving Tips
We found some great ways to save money with our dining-out budget. Our hotel supplied a continental breakfast, so that was a savings. Many times lunch was a simple salad or nuts and fruit we picked up at a grocery store. Then we would enjoy a nice supper out. Even at that, the portions are so large that we soon started sharing an entree. If we were really hungry, we would order a salad or appetizer, or save room to share a dessert.
Also check into the "off" time for things you may want to do. We tried 10-Pin Bowling for the first time in our life. By going before 6:00, the rates were less than half. Or take advantage of Early Bird Specials, weekend rates, or check coupons online.
Whether you are traveling for pleasure, medical or for business, I hope these tips will be useful to make your next trip fun and relaxing.

Ensure Airworthiness With Aircraft Corrosion Control

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Greg_Katonica]Greg Katonica
Overview
Most aircraft components are made of metal, making them susceptible to corrosion. From the time an aircraft is exposed to the elements, particularly damp, salty marine environments, corrosion becomes a concern. Even with the advent of better materials, staying on top of aircraft corrosion inspections and performing immediate repair and treatment of corroded areas is extremely important to ensure your aircraft is airworthy. Corrosion is the deterioration of metal by either chemical or electrochemical attack, and can take place on either internal or external surfaces. Corrosion typically changes the surface of your aircraft, weakening the interior or loosening or damaging adjacent components. There are many factors that affect corrosion, including climate and foreign material, such as soil, oil, great, salt water, spilled battery acids, caustic cleaning solutions, welding and brazing flux residues. That is why continual inspections, prevention treatments and repairs are necessary parts of a good aircraft corrosion control program.
Aircraft Corrosion Inspection
There are two general classifications of corrosion - direct chemical attack and electrochemical attack. In both types, the metal is converted into a metallic compound such as an oxide, hydroxide or sulfate. Forms of corrosion include:
Surface
Dissimilar Metal
Intergranular
Stress
Fretting

To perform a thorough inspection, it is important to know what areas are most prone to corrosion. These include:
Exhaust Trail Areas
Battery Compartments and Battery Vent Openings
Bilge Areas
Wheel Well and Landing Gear
Water Entrapment Areas
Engine Frontal Areas
Cooling Air Vents
Wing Flap and Spoiler Recesses
External Skin Areas

Inspections should be performed daily, particularly on those aircraft that are on or near water. A detailed inspection will include the following steps:
Thorough cleaning of the area being inspected.
Perform a visual inspection with a magnifying glass.
Remove paint from areas that are of concern.
Perform a second visual inspection with a magnifying glass.
Refer to the appropriate structural repair manual for damage limits.

It is important to consider prior metal loss, including metal on each side of the damage, when assessing corrosion damage. Upon completion of the aircraft corrosion inspection, any damage found must be evaluated. Typically the severity of corrosion damage is grouped as follows:
Light - scarred protective coating or light surface corrosion characterized by discoloration and pitting to a depth of approximately 1-mil maximum.
Moderate - similar to light except there are typically blisters of evidence or scaling and flaking. Pit depths may be as deep as 10 mils.
Severe - Often includes severe intergranular corrosion, blistering, scaling or flaking. Pit depths are deeper than 10 mils.
Repairable damage -Corrosion damage exceeds the limits of the MIM or SRM. The affected part may be used after repair.
Nonrepairable damage - damage exceeds established repair limits and must be replaced or require a special depot-level repair.

Aircraft Corrosion Repair and Treatment
Complete corrosion treatment involves cleaning and stripping the area, removing as much of the corrosion as practical, neutralizing any residual materials in pits and crevices, restoring protective surface films and applying temporary or permanent coatings or paint finishes. There are various blasting techniques that remove corrosion while leaving as much metal intact as possible, including:
Vapor
Soft-grit
Dry vacuum
Dry honing (the only approved method of removing corrosion on assembled aircraft)

If the corrosion is severe, then an abrasive wheel can be used. This device is meant to be used on thick metal and requires eye protection to be used at all times. All aircraft corrosion repairs must be made in accordance with the appropriate manuals while using proper measures to ensure the safety of the person making the repairs.
Aircraft Corrosion Control
While many improvements have been made to the materials and coatings used to protect aircraft from corrosion, developing a solid aircraft corrosion treatment and control program is an important part of every maintenance plan. Detailed daily inspections are needed, and all preventative maintenance programs should include:
Thorough rinsing and cleaning to remove salt and other corrosive agents. Pay special attention to exposed areas such as landing gear.
Periodic lubrication to seal the metal against moisture.
Immediate treatment of corrosion and touchup of damaged paint areas.
Keep drain holes free of blockage.
Drain fuel cell sumps daily.
Wipe down exposed critical areas every day.
Seal aircraft against water for protection during foul weather,
Proper ventilation of aircraft to prevent moisture from gathering.
Use protective covers on parked aircraft, particularly during inclement weather.

Aircraft corrosion repair can be very costly, particularly if the corrosion goes unnoticed for a period of time. Developing an aircraft corrosion control program that includes appropriate inspections, treatments and timely repairs will save time, money and ensure the safety of your aircraft while in flight.

How To Prepare For A Flight To Bogota

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Lance_Angles]Lance Angles
On any international flight, it is important to know what to expect upon arrival at the destination. Thanks to the calming of the situation in Colombia, more people are now heading to Bogota for sightseeing and business. In fact the country holds massive potential in both these areas. It is a fascinating part of the world, and one that is rich in culture, generosity, as well as sights and attractions.
There was a time when most visitors arriving at Bogota international airport, or Aeropuerto Internacional El Dorado as it is actually called, did so with a sense of fear and trepidation. Today, you should have no concerns about what will happen, no matter what time of the day or night. There is no chance of being snatched by FARC rebels whilst waiting for a taxi, but as in any developing country it is important to take basic precautions and let your friends and family know of your plans. This is good advice, no matter where your flight is located.
There is only one airport in the city, and this handles all international and domestic traffic. The area it occupies covers around 690 hectares of land, and in fact it is claimed that it has the second largest landing field in the entire world, and not just in South America.
The airport is located approximately 15 kilometers northwest of the city center, traveling by taxi to most hotels does not take long even in rush hour. There are prepaid taxi booths within the terminals at which a ride into the city can be booked, though it can be less expensive to request a cab from your hotel prior to arrival.
There are two terminals at the airport, Punta Aereo and El Dorado. Punta Aereo is the newer of the two, it was built in 1981, and handles all domestic flights to Cali, Monteria, and Medellin Pasto, as well those to Miami and New York flown by the national carrier, Avianca.
El Dorado Terminal was constructed in 1959 and still functions as the main arrivals and departure point for long-haul flights. It features more facilities than Punta Aereo, though as it is older than the other terminal, it does have a slightly run-down appearance, currently this terminal is being modernized. El Dorado is where most of the airport's restaurants, snack bars, and handicraft shops are to be found. There are buses that frequently run between the two terminals for passengers who are in transit.
Finding a [http://www.saflights.co.za]flight that will take you conveniently and comfortably to your destination is easier when you look online. You can schedule easy [http://www.saflights.co.za/flights-south-america/bogota-flights.html]flights to Bogota for business or holiday travel.

Why Is The Travelpro Crew 8 22 So Popular With Frequent Fliers?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Amy_M_Ling]Amy M Ling
Travelpro first designed and produced business travel cases between 1987 and the early 1990's. They had expert advice from a 747 pilot and their cases were designed around the needs of the frequent flier. Their aim was to produce cases that fitted the needs of those travelers and were durable and reliable.
During the time when the business travel case was emerging and gaining momentum, my daughter's luggage went missing and was replaced by the airline with a huge, maroon monster on four little wheels on one side and a handle on the other to steer it with.
The wheels were not synchronized and each seemed to wobble in a different direction. This was way back in the early 1990's. I borrowed it from her in May of 1997 to go from my home down south to Munich for a week. It was a mistake.
There were others too, like thinking that it would be bitterly cold so close to the snowcapped Alps. That suitcase, laden with winter clothes, was heavy and I was carrying a separate winter coat and a shoulder bag as well.
Munich's transport system is very efficient and I traveled by train from right inside the airport to the centre of town and from there I walked to the hotel lugging that suitcase.
I swear that was the worst time of my entire trip, pushing and pulling, struggling to remain on the pavement, crossing streets and trying to read the map at the same time. I organized a lift back to the airport when I left.
Traveling a lot during the past few years, I've been amazed to still see cases very similar to the 'maroon monster' at check out counters and realized that those passengers were visitors. They do that trip once in a while to see the new baby or to attend a wedding.
Their luggage requirements are different from that of the person who moves around often for business or work.
A new business luggage class has only been added to the industry fairly recently.
While designing a new range of business travel cases, Travelpro had to consider what those travelers needed to overcome the obstacles in the way to good travel experiences.
It goes without saying that I would have decent wheels and a good handle high on my list and I dread the day a zip should break spewing my underwear all over the floor.
Travelpro developed a range of cases to satisfy the needs of business passengers who fly frequently and the Travelpro crew 8 22 was designed to be the versatile one in their 11 model range. Basic requirements for all are durability, reliability and the use of good materials.

Carry On Luggage - Travel Within the Guidelines

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Loretto_Bennett]Loretto Bennett
When my husband and I first started to travel it wasn't all that difficult. We decided on our vacation destination, booked our flight, packed our bags and away we went. No hassles. Now when we fly, we choose our vacation destination, we book our flight and we pack our carry on luggage so that it is not overweight and that we have adhered to airline regulations. We noticed a big change after 9/11. We supported all the changes made as they were totally understandable.
In general, the luggage restrictions are quite similar for all the airlines as they do have to follow the TSA guidelines. The 3-1-1 rule applies to all airlines. The 3 ounce containers of liquid or gel, in 1 quart bags, 1 per traveler. You are able to take personal items in your carry on luggage. For example, nail clippers, blunt scissors, lighters etc. You are not allowed to take any kind of weapon or tool in your carry on.  You must put these items in your checked luggage and wrap them securely so that they are safely transported and not be a danger to airport officials or anyone else. You need to pack light and your carry on cannot be any larger than 45 linear inches. The carry on weight and size would need further research as each airline is different and it depends whether you are traveling abroad or local.
For example, if you are flying American Airlines within the United States you are able to take a carry on and a personal bag such as shoulder tote, purse, or briefcase on the plane. If it is an international flight you are only allowed one carry on.  If you are checking luggage traveling within Canada, the US, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, there is no checked baggage allowance. You have to pay for each checked luggage bag. Their excess and overweight baggage fees are extensive. You can take sporting equipment with you on your flight but each piece of sporting equipment comes with a policy attached. In order to travel American Airlines, it looks expensive and you would have to pay close attention to their regulations and restrictions. (Just my opinion)

How to Travel Light on Holiday

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Aditya_Kapoor]Aditya Kapoor
Travellers often face the problem of excess baggage on their trip and as a result they have to pay a heavy penalty for it. There are a number of low cost airlines that offer us the cheap air options to fly to some of the exotic destinations of the world. But when it comes to excessive baggage they charge you very heavily.
The growing economic crisis and other factors have made it difficult for the airlines to offer you low cost budget flights with all the necessary facilities. The airlines try to pass on the extra charges that they incur on to their passengers. This excessive baggage is amongst one of these charges. As the luggage increases, the weight of the airplane increase and this would mean more costs on the fuel. Many airlines allow only 20 kilograms of luggage for each passenger. Some short haul flights allow even less than this.
The first thing that you should do in order to travel light is to replace all the old and bulky suitcases that are lying somewhere in your house. These suitcases weigh about 6 to 7 kilograms and thus a quarter of your allowance is gone in the suitcases. Instead buy new suitcases which are light and sturdy. They weigh about 4 kilograms and are much better than your old ones. Purchasing this lightweight luggage can be seen as some sort of investment that will go a long way in saving money. Today large number stylish and trendy suitcases are available for every taste and need.
Make a list beforehand that would contain all the necessary items that you should carry on your journey. Some airlines give you discounts if you have a hand luggage, so keep this fact in mind and try to carry only those things which are of prime importance on the journey.
Here are some other tips that you can follow to travel light on a holiday:
Check your luggage allowance with the airlines and make sure that you adhere to them. Even 50 grams above the prescribed limits will attract a lot of penalty. Make a point to weigh your luggage before leaving for the airport.
Try to keep in some extra space for the gifts and souvenirs that you will be taking back on your return journey.
Last but not the least, if you have any relative or any friend that is travelling with you, you can ask him whether he can carry some of your luggage with him if he is travelling light.

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Aditya_Kapoor]Aditya Kapoor
There was a time when air travel used to be expensive and only a few could afford it. But today the times have changed. There are a number of low cost and budget airlines that have increased the competition in the aviation sector.

How to Find Cheap Domestic Flights Online

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Anne_Nicole_Brooke]Anne Nicole Brooke
Cheap domestic flights make it easier for nomads to travel anywhere. But while discount flights are quite popular these days, travellers should be willing to do some online searching to avail of these travel perks. Below are some tips to consider:
Do Not Procrastinate
Book your flights at least two weeks in advance. You are not only apt to get cheaper flights, but you also have enough time to plan everything for a perfect holiday. Some domestic flights would even allow you to choose the best seat if you book earlier compared to everybody else. But if you have waited until the last minute, try to look for a last-minute special. Oftentimes, airlines with few passengers on a flight run special discounts to attract more travellers to occupy empty seats.
Utilize Special Discounts
Senior citizens, children and students are entitled to discounts on ticket prices. Look for the airline's guidelines about special prices. After all, the airline will not refuse to book online just because you asked about getting a discount. Also, check with your credit card company. Sometimes, they tie up with local airlines to give their customers freebies and discounts.
Don't Always Opt for First Class Travel Accommodation
First class accommodation is always great, but it comes with a price. Unless you have special needs that should be attended immediately (e.g. health conditions, or if you are travelling with someone who needs special care), booking in economy flights is a wiser option. Economy class seats are less expensive than any other plane accommodation. They may be less comfortable compare to first class seats but they can save you hundreds of dollars.
Shop Around
Cheap domestic flights around the world are increasingly becoming popular nowadays. So before you make a final purchase, make sure you have checked various websites to ensure you are getting the best deal. Be patient when comparing airfares online.
Be flexible
While most travellers love to fly on weekends, you'll be able to save some if you fly on weekdays as the best deals are usually offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. So, if you have the choice to shift your itinerary by few days or weeks that could be great for your budget.
Take advantage of your frequent flier miles
You can save heaps on your airfare if you use your miles. Yes, redeeming miles can be difficult these days as more and more people are going this route but with little patience and determination, you can cut your airfare dramatically.

How to Find Cheap International Flights Online

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Anne_Nicole_Brooke]Anne Nicole Brooke
If you are planning to spend holidays outside of the country, you must realize that your accommodation and other travel expenses can eat up much of your holiday budget. To balance the expenses, you need to shop around for the cheapest international flight that will take you to your destination. Luckily, shopping for flights is made easier through the internet. Here are a few tips to help you find cheapest option online.
Determine Peak Travel Seasons
Travel in off seasons and at uncommon times of the year to enjoy lesser cost of flights. Since airfares can change on a daily basis, it is wise to check on them often. Besides travel seasons, travelling on Tuesdays or Wednesdays tend to be cheaper than travelling on Fridays and weekends. You may also consider flying to nearby airports as indirect flights often cost less. Perhaps you can avail of airline newsletters online to keep yourself posted on the latest travel offerings to Australia.
Check Multiple Sites
Never settle for the first flight you find online. Be patient and search for the best deal amongst the vast choices you have. Make use of various travel and airline websites to compare prices. Also look for specific discounts that you can avail of. If you're a student or a senior citizen, then make use of the student discount entitled to you.
Advance Booking
Airlines are raising fees due to unstable prices of oil in the international market. As long as oil prices are continuously rising, you can synonymously expect skyrocketing fees in international flights. So instead of procrastinating, book as soon as you know the exact date you're going.
Consider Last-Minute Deals
Airlines have a tendency to offer last-minute deals with lower prices. These are seats or rooms that are not booked to its full capacity at the last minute. So instead of leaving those unoccupied seats and rooms empty, companies would rather opt to lower their prices and gain some money for business's sake.
Know the best time to buy
Buying an international plane ticket can sometimes be tricky. Sometimes, you just don't know when to stop tracking prices and finally buy a ticket. If you always find yourself going through this dilemma over and over again, make use of websites that offer reliable fare predictions. These sites will require you to just put your itinerary and they'll advice you whether to book now or wait. These sites offer history graphs what will allow you to see whether the fare is headed in a downward or upward direction to help you make well-informed decision.

Discounted Business Class Tickets For Your Journey

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jessica_S._Williams]Jessica S. Williams
It was Wright Brothers who finally made it feasible and their invention has revolutionized our world and lifestyles. Just few decades ago the only mode of transportation was ships and trains for millions of passengers. Technology used those days was still backwards and thus it took many months for people to reach their destinations, especially when they commuted via ships. Ever since airline services came into the picture, things have drastically changed as people now can make their journey in the most comfortable way as well as reach their respective destinations at the earliest.

Originally flights had only two sets of classes. They were predominantly first class and economy class. First class was the best way to travel by all means and it still stands true even today. However, first class tickets are quite expensive as only the rich and posh could afford such fares. Unfortunately majority of the population who flies in airplanes are from the middle class and the only means of transportation for them was via economy class. Economy class fares were quite cheap and thus very much affordable. However, just as the price tag suggests, travelling via economy class was also cheap and uncomfortable.
Many passengers found it very difficult to make use of economy class as the seats are too clustered with barely any leg room space. They found it too rigid and uncomfortable and yet they had no other choice but to do so until airline services came up with business class flights. Business class served as the ideal way to travel for many. And as expected, the amount of passengers travelling by planes also tripled within couple of years of its introduction. It is much cheaper than first class tickets but slightly expensive than economy class fares. But the comforts and services one can experience in business class flights are quite profound and almost similar to first class travel. Of course at any given day, first class travel is the only best way to travel. But for frequent flyers like businessmen who cannot afford first class travel for every journey they make, business class proves to be quite resourceful.

It has all the facilities you would ever need. The seats are spaced finely, there is enough leg room space, the seats can recline up to 180 degrees, you have individual LCD panels behind every seat provided along with individual headsets, the food and other services are quite exquisite and exclusive respectively etc. Now you can travel with both comfort as well as entertainment without disturbing your fellow passengers. Business class fares are quite cheap and you can still avail further discounts on them. There are many websites online providing details as well as selling these cheap tickets. Early bookings also reap special discounts. You can also avail for elite membership which adds brownie points to your account every time you fly, these brownie points also gets you special discounts for future flights as well.

The UK's Best Airports

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_Avery]Mark Avery
Which UK airport has the widest range of long-haul routes?
London Heathrow offers the most diverse range of long-haul destinations of any airport in the UK. With rival London airports such as Luton and Stansted taking short-haul routes away from Heathrow, the number of slots available for long-haul services will only increase.
Gatwick also has a solid portfolio of long-haul flights, but these are largely holiday destinations. There are also a number of airlines, mainly from developing countries, operating long-haul flights from Gatwick because they have been unable to secure slots at Heathrow.
Of the UK regional airports, Manchester has the best range of long-haul flights. Birmingham International, Edinburgh, Glasgow International and Newcastle have all seen notable increases in the number of long-haul routes in recent years.
Which UK airport has the widest range of European routes?
London Stansted offers flights to around 150 European destinations, more than any other airport in the UK. To put the sheer volume of European flight routes available from Stansted into perspective, London Heathrow, which is the world's busiest international hub, only serves around 70 European destinations.
Outside of London, Manchester has the best European links of any UK regional airport. A wide of European flights are also available from Edinburgh and Glasgow International. On the other hand, Birmingham International still suffers from a lack of flights to two of Europe's most important capitals, Berlin and Madrid.
Which UK airport has the widest range of cheap flights?
London Stansted is the undisputed king of the UK's cheap flights airports. This is largely due to the fact that Stansted is the biggest British hub for no-frills giant Ryanair. EasyJet also has a significant presence at Stansted, alongside smaller cheap flights specialists such as Air Berlin and Germanwings. There is a phenomenal range of flights to Europe from Stansted, with around 150 destinations served.
Other UK airports with a good selection of cheap flights include London Luton, Bristol, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Manchester, Newcastle and Birmingham.
Which UK airport has the widest range of holiday flights?
London Gatwick offers more holiday flights than any other UK airport, and is likely to become even more dominant in this field if it ever gets permission to build a second runway.
East Midlands is the best served of the UK's regional airports for holiday flights, and its central location means that it is within easy reach of most of the UK population.
Other airports with impressive numbers of holiday flights include Glasgow Prestwick, Manchester, London Luton and Birmingham International.
Which UK regional airport has the most routes?
Manchester is by far the UK's most important regional hub. It handles well over twice as many passengers as its nearest rival, Birmingham International, and features an impressive range of flights to key European business hubs, holiday favourites and long-haul destinations. Manchester should also be congratulated for refusing to bow to the bullying tactics used by Ryanair to "encourage" airports into virtually giving away landing slots.
Which UK airport is best for public transport?
Birmingham International has to win this accolade because it is the only UK airport tapped into a mainline intercity rail network. Birmingham International can be reached in little over an hour from central London and Manchester via the WestCoast Mainline. The journey time from the airport to Birmingham New Street in the city centre is just 12 minutes.
London Heathrow is also worthy of a mention because is served both by a dedicated (if outrageously over-priced) rail link into London as well as the London Underground. If, and this is a big if, Heathrow is linked into the proposed high-speed line from London to Birmingham, then it will really start to compete with European rivals like Frankfurt International and Paris Charles de Gaulle, which are both served by high-speed intercity trains.
Which UK airport is best for business travellers?
London City, especially now the missing piece in the jigsaw - namely flights to New York - has been sorted. Business travellers don't need fancy shops and restaurants, they want speed and efficiency. London City fits the bill, and within 30 minutes of landing you can reach both of London's financial districts (Canary Wharf and The City).
What is the UK's most impressive airport building?
Heathrow Terminal 5 might have endured a troubled opening, but there have never been any doubts about the magnificence of the Lord Rogers-designed building.
On a much smaller scale, Doncaster Sheffield is a fine example of the perfect kind of clean design that will lure passengers away from the congested larger hubs.
We should also give an honorable mention to St Pancras International. Ok, so the Eurostar station is obviously not an airport, but it is very much an international transport hub. Architecturally, St Pancras's monumentally beautiful Barlow train shed is in a different league to any of the UK's airports, indeed it wouldn't be an overstatement to say it is the most impressive transport terminus in Europe. To think us Brits always coo about Parisian style and flair - now it is our Gallic chums looking across the Channel in awe!
